Yuba City California Attractions

Yuba-Sutter...
the Undiscovered California

Yuba-Sutter is a magnificent untapped and underdeveloped resource. Visit our lakes and streams. Discover a rich history hidden in museums, temples and churches built by men and women of many faiths who settled Yuba City and Marysville in the mid-1880s. Come back for our festivals, fairs and concerts. Tour the remnants of our past and view the vistas of our future.

Visit us once, you'll come back for more.

Water Skiing, Fishing, Horseback Riding and Rodeos

The lakes and streams offer plenty of water sports for residents and visitors to Yuba-Sutter. Water skiers and wind surfers zig zag across wakes, while swimmers stay closer to shore. Deep pools in the Yuba River and at the base of Beale Falls test more adventuresome swimmers and divers. There's even limited white water for rafters.

Nearby waterways teem with fish and waterfowl. The Yuba, Feather and Sacramento Rivers offer trout, salmon and steelhead fishing. Bass, brown trout and kokanee populate mountain lakes, and nearby snow-fed streams issue a challenge to the avid fly fisherman and outdoorsman.

You can get a different view of Yuba-Sutter from horseback. River bottom trails and country backroads are ideal for horseback riding. If you prefer watching horses to riding them, Yuba-Sutter is Rodeo Country. Stampede fever hits town in May when the Flying U Rodeo Company's Cotton Rosser rounds up his meanest, orneriest broncs and finds riders to match.

Beale Air Force Base

Yuba-Sutter is home to the world's fastest aircraft—the sleek SR-71. The record-breaking "Blackbirds" can be seen at Beale Air Force Base's annual "Guest Day." Precision flying teams like the Air Force's "Thunderbirds" provide added thrills at the community open house.

Bok Kai Festival

Chinese New Year is celebrated in Marysville with a festival honoring Bok Kai, the Chinese God of Water. Brightly colored wind chimes announce the approach of the century-old Bok Kai Festival. Hundreds of Chinese complete the pilgrimage to Marysville to worship at the secluded Bok Kai temple, located behind the Silver Dollar Saloon on First Street.

A crash of gongs and drums signals the beginning of the festival. Lion dancers perform ancient steps and Kim Lung, the festival dragon, dances down "D" Street, a kaleidoscopic swirl of color.

Festival activities include art exhibits, Bok Kai Mile Run, entertainment and kite flying.

Agriculture

Yuba-Sutter is recognized as an integral part of California's rice bowl as well as a viticultural (wine producing) area. Vineyards of premium grapes are thriving in the Mediterranean climate of the Yuba County foothills.

September comes alive with the California Dried Plum Festival. Yuba and Sutter Counties turn purple with pride hosting the event, which includes a Dixieland festival, children's stage, demonstrating artists, a Farmer's Market, juried crafts, 10-K run and, of course, Prunes!

Opportunities to taste test prune pasta, prune yogurt, prune cake and dozens of other prune flavored foods will be provided by festival volunteers. Sip a beer or a prune milkshake and enjoy the music of some of the best Jazz, Rhythm and Blues, Dixie, good ol' Rock n' Roll and Country & Western bands.

Ellis Lake

Marysville's Ellis Lake is a lake for city dwellers, small children and travelers. Friendly ducks will stop to chat and even break bread with you, and small blue gill practically leap onto the lines of young Tom Sawyers.

Jog along Ellis Lake, or float lazily in brightly colored paddle boats, meditating in the reflective red, yellow and blue glow cast by the fountain lights.
